  • The Technical Syllabus for each belt content a big number of Technical movements, but the test concentrate only on the main parts of it, and it is the following mentioned requirements.

  • The following mentioned requirements are the same requirements in the headquarter (Honbu) of I.K.O. Kyokushin Kaikan in Japan.

  • The instructor can create the combinations of Moving Basics (Ido), three steps fighting (Sanbon Kumite) and the block and retaliation (Uke Kaeshi).

  • The requirements of Kata for each test is to be in addition to all the previous Kata, and the instructor can request from the student who is doing the test to perform one Kata of them or more according to his grade, or he can use the lot to choose the Kata.

Promotion Test Requirements for White Belt (No Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata:
    1- Taikyoku Sono Ichi. 2- Taikyoku Sono Ni. 3- Sokugi Taikyoku Sono Ichi.


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Head reaches the floor from a seated position with legs open.
    2- Push ups: 20.
    3- Jumping Squats: 20.
    4- Hand Stand: 20 Seconds (supported by another person).
    5- Chin ups: 3.
    6-
    Jump (Tobi Geri): To a target the level of your own height.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Three Steps fighting (Sanbon Kumite).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite): 30 Seconds.


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: 48 Hours = 3 Months.

Promotion Test Requirements for Orange Belt (10 & 9 Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Taikyoku Sono San. 2- Sokugi Taikyoku Sono Ni. 3- Sokugi Taikyoku Sono San.


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Head reaches the floor from a seated position with legs open (with improvement from this level).
    2- Push ups: 30.
    3- Jumping Squats: 30.
    4- Hand Stand: 30 Seconds.
    5- Chin ups: 5.
    6- Jump (Tobi Geri): Your own height + 10cm.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Three Steps fighting (Sanbon Kumite).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite): 30 Seconds.


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: Kyu 10: 48 Hours = 3 Months / Kyu 9: 48 Hours = 3 Months.


Promotion Test Requirements for Blue Belt (8 & 7 Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Pinan Sono Ichi. 2- Pinan Sono Ni. 3- Sanchin.


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Shoulders touch the floor in a seated position with legs open.
    2- Push ups: 40.
    3- Jumping Squats: 40.
    4- Hand Stand: 40 Seconds.
    5- Chin ups: 8.
    6- Jump (Tobi Geri): Your own height + 15cm.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Block and Retaliation (Uke Kaeshi).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite): 60 Seconds.


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: Kyu 8: 48 Hours = 3 Months / Kyu 7: 48 Hours = 3 Months.

Promotion Test Requirements for Yellow Belt (6 & 5 Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Pinan Sono San. 2- Pinan Sono Yon. 3- Yanstu. 4- Tsuki No Kata.


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Shoulders touch the floor in a seated position with legs open (with notable improvement).
    2- Push ups: 50.
    3- Jumping Squats: 50.
    4- Hand Stand: 50 Seconds.
    5- Chin ups: 10.
    6- Jump (Tobi Geri): Your own height + 20cm.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Block and Retaliation (Uke Kaeshi).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 3 rounds.


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: Kyu 6: 48 Hours = 3 Months / Kyu 5: 48 Hours = 3 Months.

Promotion Test Requirements for Green Belt (4 & 3 Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Taikyoku Sono Ichi Ura. 2- Taikyoku Sono Ni Ura. 3- Taikyoku Sono San Ura. 4- Gekisai Dai.
    5- Tekki Sono Ichi.


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Chest touches the floor in a seated position with legs open.
    2- Push ups: 60.
    3- Jumping Squats: 60.
    4- Hand Stand: 60 Seconds.
    5- Chin ups: 12.
    6- Jump (Tobi Geri): Your own height + 30cm.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Block and Retaliation (Uke Kaeshi).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 5 rounds.


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: Kyu 4: 96 Hours = 6 Months / Kyu 3: 96 Hours = 6 Months.

Promotion Test Requirements for Brown Belt (2 & 1 Kyu)

  • Moving Basics (Ido): Three Steps.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Pinan Sono Ichi Ura. 2- Pinan Sono Ni Ura. 3- Pinan Sono San Ura. 4- Pinan Sono Yon Ura.
    5- Pinan Sono Go Ura. 6- Tensho. 7- Saifa. 8- Gekisai Sho. 9- Tekki Sono Ni. 10- Bo Kihon Sono Ichi


  • Conditioning:
    1- Flexibility: Chest touches the floor in a seated position with legs open.
    2- Push ups: 100.
    3- Jumping Squats:100.
    4- Hand Stand: 90 Seconds.
    5- Chin ups: 15.
    6- Jump (Tobi Geri): Your own height + 30cm (Tobi Ushiro Geri or Tobi Ushiro Mawashi Geri, right & left).


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Block and Retaliation (Uke Kaeshi).
    2- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 10 rounds.


  • Breaking (Tameshi Wari).


  • Self-Defense (Goshin Jitsu).


  • Written Examination:
    Terminology & Philosophy.


Period of Training: Kyu 2: 96 Hours = 6 Months / Kyu 1: 96 Hours = 6 Months.

Promotion Test Requirements for Black Belt 1st Dan "Shodan Senpai"

 

 

  • Excellent Martial Arts Practitioner and Superior example for the students.


  • Excellent conditioning exceeding Brown Belt requirements.


  • Must be a minimum of 15 years. (12 years and under may obtain 1st Dan, but for 2nd Dan they should be 15).


  • Contribution to the IKO.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Seienchin. 2- Garyu. 3- Tekki Sono San. 4- Bassai Dai. 5- Chion. 6- Nunchaku Nihon Sono Ichi. 7- Tonfa Kihon Sono Ichi.


  • Gyakute, Self-Defense: Attend an official seminar.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 20 rounds.


  • Written Examination:
    Research About Kyokushin.

Promotion Test Requirements for Black Belt 2nd Dan "Nidan-Senpai"

 

 

 

 

  • Excellent conditioning exceeding 1st Dan (Shodan) requirements.


  • Consistent contribution to the IKO.


  • IKO Associate Judge Certification.


  • IKO Senior Advisor's formal written.


  • Must be a minimum of 17 years of age.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Seipai. 2- Soki. 3- Taizan.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 30 rounds.

Promotion Test Requirements for Black Belt 3rd Dan "Sandan-Sensei"  

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • IKO Judge Certification.


  • Test at IKO Honbu or before officials appointed by IKO Honbu.


  • Recognition as a model citizen and a record of distinguished service within the IKO.


  • IKO Senior Advisor's formal written recommendation letter for promotion.


  • Must be a minimum of 20 years of age.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Kanku.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 40 rounds.

Promotion Test Requirements for Black Belt 4th Dan "Yondan-Sensei" 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • IKO Associate Referee Certification.


  • Test at IKO Honbu or otherwise before Kancho.


  • Contribute significantly to the promotion of Kyokushin in home region.


  • Consistent participation in international competitions, camps or seminars held by Kancho.


  • IKO Senior Advisor's formal written recommendation letter for promotion.


  • Must be a minimum of 24 years of age.


  • Kata: All the previous Kata in addition to:
    1- Sushiho.


  • Fighting (Kumite):
    1- Free fighting (Jiyu Kumite) 60 Seconds: 50 rounds.
